music ramble: Ashbury Heights - Three Cheers for The Newlydeads

so. one of my favorite bands in the last few years has been ashbury heights. an electronic music duo that originally was comprised of Anders hagström and yasmine uhlin- according to what ive read (which is like, brief descriptions on discogs) yasmine had left the duo around the release of their EP to start her own music project... whiiich lasted one album, from what i saw. she was replaced by kari burg, but then burg left after one album.. some record company disputes later, they disbanded... thheeen after when said disputes were resolved, they came back with ANOTHER new vocalist, tea f. thime.

and then she departed *AGAIN* and yasmine returned. LOLOL

now i cant say why that all occurred, but i think the transitioning is very, VERY funny.

regardless: i love the sound of their music. it has a gothic quality- especially in their early albums that very much appeals to me. im also a sucker for a good synth, and oh baby have they got synths for days.

i also just cant get over how god damn good their album art is.

Ashbury Heights - Three Cheers for the Newly Deads

like this, from their first album. it's one of my favorite album covers ever. the fashion, the makeup, just down to the poses and framing. i cannot put to words how much i adore it. you can SMELL the 2000s from it.

one song on this album in particular, "Angora Overdrive" was a huge inspiration for my website name. the more you know!

this album just has so many incredible songs though, i cant name one on it that i don't like. i also think its a perfect intro album for anyone just starting with their discography.

some stars on this album are:

- Christ

- Angora Overdrive (of course)

- Illusion

- Waste of Love

- SmAlLeR

other albums of theirs i also really love, which has one of the most special and most important songs to me on it is "The Looking Glass Society" from 2015.

the album art for this one is so good too. im more familiar with these two albums than their others, but god that doesn't mean the rest of them arent incredibly good. their latest album, from 2024! has the coincidence of having a song with the exact name of a DND session i have with my girlfriend and my friends. shoutout to spectres from the black moss.

i just like them a lot, throughout every version of the duo, every vocalist- i adore ashbury heights so much.

carry us out, phantasmagoria.

By a shore of silver ashesWhere a sea of sorrow crashesThere is someone who remembersSomeone who bears my resemblance
Someone who has all the seemingOf a ghost forever dreamingAnd when I call it always answers"I cannot tell you anything"
And every ghastly apparitionClaims to be the soul I'm missingEven though I keep on sayingThat chair is empty now
